
Phytosterols
Phytosterols (including both sterols and stanols) are lipid-like compounds of plant
origin, structurally similar to cholesterol. They have the ability to inhibit the
intestinal absorption of cholesterol, thereby contributing to the reduction of LDL
(“bad”) cholesterol levels in the blood. Due to their natural origin and scientifically
documented efficacy, phytosterols are widely used in health-oriented food
products.
